The Waste Round Table is part of Piet Hein Eek's new 40x40 Collection, an extension of the Waste Collection which brings his quintessential vocabulary of recycled wood collage into new forms. Taking the ideology and process of Waste one step further, the 40x40 Collection utilizes the smaller pieces of material left behind by his original Waste series. In an effort to reduce the lengthy and painstaking process, he came up with the idea of employing a fixed size of 40 mm by 40 mm. The appearance of these new pieces are particularly defined by the combination of the standardized size and the decision to use the materials solely as an outer skin instead of stacking them. The Waste Round Table is produced with a high gloss finish, which is achieved from the application of over ten coats of a water-based lacquer.
