HENZEL STUDIO is pleased to present a collection of art pillows designed in collaboration with leading contemporary artists AVAF, Scott Campbell, Robert Knoke, Nan Goldin, Richard Phillips, Jack Pierson, Anselm Reyle, Juergen Teller and Tom of Finland. All groundbreaking and leading forces within their respective fields and media, their mark has not only been honored and highlighted at leading galleries and institutions worldwide, but also widely documented and manifested as a mirror of cultural movements.
Each artist was invited to produce numerous designs, and to freely create and translate works into the media at hand: digital print on canvas, encompassing works across photography, mixed media montages, drawings, paintings, collages and relief sculptures.
The creative brief allowed the artists to embrace the outcome as part of their body of work and create designs that complement their artistic practice. For example, Anselm Reyle chose to expand on his celebrated foil paintings, which thrive on being reproduced and gain further purpose once multiplied. The art collective AVAF created a series of artworks titled BUTT PILLOWS as offspring of their 2013 exhibition Alisabel viril apagão fenomenal at Casa Triângulo in São Paulo, a visual commentary on the reckless real estate development taking place in the city. Juergen Teller selected photographs he took of floor to ceiling wall montages representing his body of work as featured in his exhibition WOO! at Intitute of Contemporary Art in London in 2013, which once translated onto the pillows have a dynamic collage effect.
