Autoban

Interior environments, products, furniture and lighting – Istanbul based Autoban are unabashed design multi-hyphenates. Founders Seyhan Ozdemir and Sefer Caglar met at the Fine Arts Faculty of Mimar Sinan University, studying architecture and interior design respectively.

With the credo of “form, function, experience,” Autoban was established in 2003 to combine product development, architecture, and interior design under one roof. The collaboration has proven to be extremely productive, with myriad restaurant, hotel and retail interiors – known for their sense of discovery and experience - achieving global recognition.

Given their breadth of experience in creating dynamic interiors of all sizes, an extension into furniture, objects and lighting was a no-brainer. Autoban furniture and Autoban lighting is characterized by its clean, modern sensibility, thoughtful evocation of traditional motifs and the influence of the team’s native Turkey. A survey of the firm’s products reveals more than 120 products, including tables, lamps, beds, sofas, bookcases, and lighting, distributed to more than 60 locations worldwide. Autoban lighting is well know for its intriguing designs.

Key pieces within Autoban’s covetable collection include the Deco Sofa and the Cloud Table. The Deco Sofa, produced by De La Espada, is a contemporized version of a 20th century staple, with floating wooden panels and oversized cushions. Inspired by the dreamy formations of clouds, the formidable-looking Cloud Table is an oversized piece engineered from wood or marble and comprised of intersecting circles. Autoban’s most recent Union Collection exemplifies the team’s brand of bold, clean modernity with rounded forms, crisp lines and traditional wood techniques.

Autoban’s diverse projects continue to resonate with architects, designers and the world’s design press. Nominated for WIN’S 2015 Interior Practice of the Year, their recent projects include a luxurious update of Heydar Aliyev Airport in Baku and myriad interior projects that can be discovered in cities across the globe, including Madrid, St. Petersburg and Hong Kong.
