Floris Wubben

Founded in Amsterdam in 2009, Studio Floris Wubben is an innovative design studio known for exceptional pieces that push the boundaries of form and function. Beyond his celebrated work with ceramics, the designer also creates mirrors, furniture and lighting. Among Wubben’s groundbreaking collections is Erosion, a collaboration with Cor Unum ceramics studio, which includes bowls, cups and pots. The ingenious range, emblematic of the artist’s personal and intensely conceptual process, was created using a rotating central blowtorch which applies heat to the surface of the wet ceramic objects.

Pushing the limits of material and craftsmanship, Wubben is known for bold experimentation. Crystal Shift, a lighting collaboration first shown during Dutch Design Week, paired organic hanging acrylic sculpture made with LED lighting. A testament to his versatility and collaborative spirit, Wubben also created the Upside Down chair, crafted from an inverted willow tree with supports of winging twigs that give the appearance of a live organic, live tree.

A unique ability to pivot between creating sculptural one-of-a-kind pieces and studio made products coveted by design fans, Wubben possesses a chameleonic appeal. An interest in process has led to numerous critically acclaimed collections, including the Pressed Epoxy Vases - a range of vessels created with a “pressing-machine,” a process which puts an entirely new spin on craftsmanship.

Studio Floris Wubben is located in Amsterdam, a city increasingly recognized for its cutting edge design scene. The studio’s designs are unique and each offer a new exploration of material and style. Wubben’s collections appear in museums including the Design Museum Holon, Israel, The Museum of Art and Design, New York, Gewerbe, Winterthur, Mint Museum and the Museum of Arts and Design, Singapore.
