Cameron Mathieson
Cameron Mathieson's light fixtures are stunning works and an art installation in itself. They have gone through long metamorphosis as artist himself. He studied photography at the Banff Centre in Canada. Traumatic personal experience has influenced his life and artistic path. Cameron Mathieson works from the shores of remote Duncan Lake in the Kootenays, in nature and solitude. Artist transforms driftwood, worn and naturally discarded branches and roots into new life. He collects them and with the use of Japanese paper and resin transforms into organic lighting. Like skeletons and spines, they become armatures of which paper is elegantly shaped and twisted around and light is introduced. “Illuminating them became another step in the transformative process, bringing light to death, and to life” says Cameron. His works were presented on numerous exhibitions around the world and are part of permanent collections in galleries, National Gallery Ottawa, Edmonton Art Gallery and Canada Council Art Bank among others.
