Product description Specification

57 is an exploration of a technique of making analogous to that used for producing closed cell foam. The process involves trapping voids of air of different sizes and configurations within a glass matrix, yielding a shape loosely referencing a rain cloud. These pockets of air remain invisible when the piece is off, but come alive to reveal an interior universe when the piece is illuminated. By virtue of the fabrication process, each piece made is completely unique from any other piece ever produced.

A flexible suspension system allows for easy composition: pendants may be clustered such that they touch each other, referencing a cloudy sky (an especially poignant reference in the City of Vancouver, where the idea was born); they may also be composed as a field, such that each piece can be perceived individually, perhaps referencing a child's drawing of a cloud (equally poignant but in a more universal manner). Most chandeliers are fundamentally vertical in composition, which is why they work best in rooms with high ceilings; in contrast, 57 is conceived as a layer or strata of light, or in other words: a horizontal chandelier.

Omar Arbel, 2013

Hand blown glass, amber / mirror finish

1.8W LED long life lamps (included). LED is dimmable with 10 or more pendants. 57 is a sculptural piece emphasizing form, additional illumination may be required.

Due to the hand crafted nature of the 57 series, the pendant size as well as color depth and tonality will vary. This includes the number and location of interior air pockets, pendant diameter, color and sometimes shape.

57 features 1-61 pendants suspended from a round canopy (Any amount of light sources available upon request). This piece is designed to occupy a horizontal plane that deviates from its gravitational directive. Pendants can be hung from any number of optional swag points mounted away from the canopy.

57 is a white and clear blown-glass pendant dipped in coloured glass, housing either a low-voltage LED or a replaceable and dimmable proprietary LED lamp. By virtue of the fabrication process, each 57 is completely unique from any other piece ever produced. Individual 57 pendants have a strong spatial presence that grows exponentially when clustered in cloud-like formations. Coaxial cable lengths and pendant drops must be specified when ordering.

In 2005, Bocci was founded in a red barn surrounded by hay fields, on the periphery of Vancouver, Canada. The company launched with one product, 14, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. Today, Bocci has a growing portfolio of contemporary design ranging from light installations to furniture and electrical sockets. All Bocci designs are developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale.
